About us
Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) is a Glasgow based charity which delivers “Education through Sport” programmes to disadvantaged young people across Scotland.
Scottish Sports Futures targets those young people most at risk where and when they are most at risk focusing on neighbourhoods’ which suffer from acute youth disorder and anti social behaviour. Initiatives are designed to encourage integration, self-efficacy, healthy lifestyles and good citizenship. These issues are tackled in a relaxed and informal environment.
SSF uses basketball as the engagement tool – it’s inclusive with a cool image, offers a platform to connect with youngsters, supports positive lifestyle choices and encourages youngsters to reach their full potential. Generating a positive group work identity around an attractive and appealing activity offers an encouraging backdrop to ask young people to consider key topics. Basketball is also a first choice sport for many young refugee and asylum seekers in Scotland and the programmes assist integration and offer participants routes to education, volunteering and employment. Educational inputs address issues such as addictions, diet, activity levels and the realities of racism, sectarianism and territorialism. Youth panels which comprise participants inform the content and future development of our delivery.
SSF benefits from a unique partnership with the Glasgow Rocks professional basketball team, allowing access to professional role models who participate fully in all initiatives. Local and national consultation alongside strong working relationships with partners ensure that community needs are met.
